Students will search the internet and the TDC database to access information about the life of Adlai E. Stevenson II
STATE GOAL 3.B: Students will determine what questions have to be asked to compose well-organized and coherent writing for specific purposes and audiences. Students will generate a list of questions and topics they feel will best share the life of their school's namesake.
STATE GOAL 5.A: Students will locate, organize, and use information from various sources to answer questions, solve problems and communicate ideas. Students will develop a Power Point that presents the life and major events in the namesake of their school.
STATE GOAL 16 B: Understand the development of significant political events.
STATE GOAL 16 D: Understand Illinois, United States and world social history.		 Students will identify the major contributions Adlai E. Stevenson II had on the history of Illinois and The United States.


Materials:


Procedures:

  1. Students will be shown a picture of Adlai E. Stevenson II and asked to respond who he is. Adlai is the namesake of their school, but it is doubtful any students know who he is or what he is famous for.
  2. Students will generate a list of questions they would like to know about this "Mystery Person".
  3. Students will research work to research six areas in the life of Adlai E. Stevenson II: His Early life, Governor of Illinois, Campaigns for president, Ambassador to the UN, famous quotes, later years.
  4. Students will create a supply of notecards with information on their topic.
  5. Students will create a power point or hyperstudio presentation about their topic.

Assessment:

  1. Each power point must contain 6 slides
  2. Slides must contain:
    • a. content
    • b. color
    • c. animation
    • d. pictures
    • e. clip art
  3. Information must be accurate and sources must be cited.
  4. Credit will be given to information shared in a creative way.
